These New Year’s resolutions will ensure your business stays relevant in 2024

As we prepare to wave goodbye to 2023 and we usher in a new year chock-full of promise, let’s start as we mean to go on, with six new year’s resolutions to ensure 2024 is your best year yet.

  1. Be more “woke” 🙌

Our capacity to understand and respond compassionately to other humans, especially those who are marginalised in some way, is an integral part of our humanity. Whatever the media may tell you – THIS IS NOT A BAD THING – buck the trend this year by being more, not less “woke” in 2024.

  1. Keep up with “kids”…👀

With one in five Gen Z adults identifying as LGBT, a figure which has doubled since it was first measured by Gallup in 2012, being able to navigate trans inclusion with understanding and respect is key in ensuring your offer, whatever that may be, resonates with the widest possible audience (more eyeballs = greater chance of success).

  1. Be more curious 🤔

If a headline seems a bit far-fetched, dig a little deeper. Are trans guys and non-binary people really asking that we stop using the word woman or are they just asking us to recognise that they may be impacted by some of the same challenges?

  1. Be a safe haven 🤗

Research suggests that more than 50% of trans people feel the need to hide their gender identity at work. How can your employees do their best work for your organisation if they are having to hide who they are? This shouldn’t be a thing. You can do better (that includes introducing workplace policies that actually make team members feel seen and safe).

  1. Learn a new language 🏳️‍⚧️

While avoiding challenging questions for fear of making a mess is not going to get you the credibility you are looking for, gaining a deeper understanding so you can join the conversation in a way which aligns with your company values, will.

  1. Get trained 🤓

Training can help your organisation to really interrogate the communications challenges posed in this area to ensure you are ready whatever comes your way (inevitably at 5pm on a Friday afternoon, just before you head off on holiday). Understanding how trans inclusion fits with your broader values, as well as the risks to the business of failing to be inclusive, are integral to passing safely through the eye of the storm.
