TransMission PR delighted to welcome new recruit: Milo Turnley

What a pleasure to be here! I’m Milo (he/him), I’m trans masc and I’ve just started as a new Senior Account Manager at TransMission PR.

As we move through the sticky, and temperamental, summer of 2024, it’s safe to say that this year has been one of the most profound for me. Not only have I just started a dream role at this one-of-a-kind agency, but 2024 saw the largest turnout for any trans pride in the world at London Trans+ Pride (LT+P), making it the biggest trans pride in history too.

Working as the PR Manager for LT+P this year has been a bucket-list-honour for me. I curated a Press Brunch at The Mandrake Hotel the day before LT+P, with included an all star panel of: BIMINI, Olivia Campbell-Cavendish, Jude Guaitamacchi, Ella Morgan, one of the LT+P founders Lewis G Burton and LT+P organiser Ren. The event also hosted LGBTQIA+ luminaries Romy, TAAHLIAH, Baby, Le Fil, Fox Fisher, Jamie Raines, Abigail Thorn and many more.

Raising awareness of the sheer gravity and importance of LT+P among the media has been a hard-earned struggle but the word seems to be getting out to the general population with a record 50,000 plus attendees joining the march. We’re determined to see those attendance numbers rise and rise over the coming years in support of our often-silenced, always-magnificent community.

My background is in music and events PR, and I’m a highly-experienced publicist, community organiser, events organiser, social media manager and consultant, deeply passionate about trans+ inclusion and using my expertise to platform trans+ talent.

My work in the entertainment industry over the past eight years has allowed me to contribute to the rise of artists such as Kim Petras, Florence + The Machine, Tyla, Ayra Starr, BANKS, AURORA, Orion Sun, Dora Jar, Låpsley and Charlotte Day Wilson.

I am often caught fashioning a Britney earpiece, scurrying around on red carpets or through the rabbit holes of backstage areas, as I try to herd cats (artists). Whether working on the PR for British Summer Time in Hyde Park, All Points East Festival, MOBO Awards, Notting Hill Carnival or the MIT Awards, I can confirm that herding cats is truly a lifestyle choice 😉

In August 2023, I founded London’s first trans+ skate collective Transkaters, setup as a space for trans+ skateboarders, rollerskaters, rollerbladers, wheelchair and mobility aid users away from the toxic masculinity of skate parks. The group has blossomed beautifully and we now have the only regular LGBTQIA+ skate night in London, every second Friday of the month at BAYSIXTY6. You can follow us on Instagram here.

We work hard to create the most inclusive and respectful group we can, and as a result have a bustling community of new trans+ siblings, open to all abilities. We’ve been featured in Gay Times, spoken at events such as the BFI Flare’s LGBTQIA+ networking event and put on a Trans Skate + Live Music night in collaboration with the Trans Creative Collective, are generously supported by the trans+ charity Not A Phase (who allow us to offer free entry for our trans+ skaters), and have many more plans on the horizon. Reconnecting with our bodies as trans+ individuals is of cardinal importance, and picking up a sport that we may have loved as kids, or are even trying for the first time, skating can be such a cathartic release.

My recent work across organisations such as Black Lives In Music (BLiM), the organisation set up to address racial inequality in the music industry and create opportunities for Black, Asian and ethnically diverse musicians and professionals, London Trans+ Pride, Transkaters and many other productions and organisations, have given me invaluable tools to speak about underrepresented groups and fight for their justice.

As a trans man, I am utterly grateful that TransMission PR exists, and am confident that our work together will help to drive the conversation forward for trans+ inclusion in the UK and beyond.
