20 Jan Tips from a TikTok novice
At the end of 2022 a colleague set me the challenge of getting onto TikTok. Not one to shy away from such things, and perhaps in spite of my better judgement, I accepted.
On January 3, I started posting daily tips on how to be a better ally to trans and non-binary people, using the hashtag #transally365.
Having completed two full weeks (no mean feat I can assure you), I thought I would share what I have learned so far:
- Post about something you are passionate about – 365 days is a lot of TikToks
- Get a Gen Zer to review your posts before they go live (they won’t hold back if the content is rubbish!)
- Have one in the can. Who knows what tomorrow will bring: work commitments, illness, tech issues, your birthday…have a spare post ready to go, just in case.
- Habit stack! Create your posts as part of another daily habit to make sure they happen!
- As my teens would say: It’s not that deep. Don’t over think it.
The great news is that people are actually engaging with the content. It’s hardly viral but as the content is evergreen those figures will continue to go up over time. And after just two weeks my page looks super awesome (though some of my expressions are questionable!)

Hope to see you there!
